Bio:
Designers Without Borders is the world's first non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
expressly dedicated to disseminating design through development. A voluntary
consortium of designers and design educators, DWB is dedicated to helping under-resourced
institutions of the developing world meet their communication design needs.
Designers Without Borders was founded in December 2000 in Kampala, Uganda. Profiled
in the April 2002 International issue of HOW Design, DWB has provided extensive
assistance to both the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts at
Makerere University, and to Mwereerwe Secondary School in Bombo, Uganda.
Designers Without Borders is able to assist select non-profit organizations with
printed, web-based, and multimedia solutions to public relations needs. DWB has
worked with both the National Committee of Women Living With AIDS in Uganda and
the National Association of Womens Organizations of Uganda, and can provide your
organization expert service from preliminary advice through finished product.
Plans are currently underway for partnerships with Kyamboga University Kampala,
the Michaelangelo School of Art in Kisuvi,and St. Kalemba's Secondary School
Mukono District during DWB's 2006 field work in Uganda.

David Stairs is the founding editor of the Design-Altruism-Project and a regular
contributor to Design Issues. Since 1994 he has coordinated the graphic design
program at Central Michigan University. In 2001 he founded Designers Without
Borders and has since been involved in development work in Africa.
